Former Zimbabwe President’s Son Robert Tinotenda Mugabe Faces Arrest After Skipping Court

A court on Thursday issued a warrant for the arrest of Robert Tinotenda Mugabe, the son of the late former president Robert Mugabe, after he failed to appear for a scheduled hearing.

The 33-year-old was arrested last month on a drug possession charge and had been remanded to November 6.

After his name was called three times, magistrate Lisa Mutendereki issued the warrant.

Mugabe’s lawyer, Ashiel Mugiya, told the court he would make efforts to bring his client to court on Friday.

Mugabe Junior is also facing other unrelated charges, including assault, before different courts.

His drug arrest came after police stopped his silver Honda Fit driving against traffic on a one-way street along 2nd Street Extension in Harare.

When officers searched his sling bag, they allegedly found two sachets of cannabis, a pack of Rizla papers, and a cannabis grinder.

The seized substance, weighing two grams and valued at US$30, was confirmed by experts. Mugabe allegedly refused to sign the police seizure receipt.
