The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 3rd Infantry Division concluded a series of civil-military cooperation activities in Moroto Municipality, Karamoja.
The events, marking the annual Tarehe Sita period, culminated in the handover of two new boda-boda shelters constructed by the Karamoja Cluster.
The initiative, which began in December 2025, included medical camps across several Karamoja districts, the cleaning of public spaces in Moroto town, the repair of 100 boreholes region-wide, and the construction of multiple motorcycle taxi shelters in urban centres.
Presiding over the ceremony, Major General Wilberforce Serumkuma, the 3 Infantry Division Commander, emphasised the UPDF’s commitment to its partnership with the civilian population.
“The NRA, which later became the UPDF, achieved the liberation struggle and the gains we see today because of its strong association with the local citizens,” Maj Gen Serumkuma said.
He extended gratitude to local authorities for providing logistical support, including manpower, graders, and dump trucks, which facilitated the cleanup exercises.Moroto Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon. Adome Francis, praised the UPDF’s community-centred approach.
“This partnership has been instrumental in securing peace and attracting industrial investments to the region,” he stated.
The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Moroto, Mr. Tuko Justin, highlighted the productive cooperation between the army and civil authorities as a “conduit for development.
”The event was attended by Moroto RDC Benon Kwikiriza, Mayor Hon. Muhammad Ismail, Col Santurino Tumuranzye (Division Operations and Training Officer), and other Division staff officers.
