Masindi based journalist Robert Okumu has been elected Chairperson LCIII of Pakanyi Sub-county.
Okumu, a journalist with Bunyoro Broadcasting Services (BBS) radio in Masindi town, was declared the winner on Thursday morning after polling 1,687 votes, defeating four other candidates.
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer was followed by Wilfred Sunday, an independent candidate, who garnered 684 votes. Nasur Ahebwa, also running as an independent, came third with 238 votes. Godfrey Wembabazi of the National Unity Platform (NUP) finished fourth with 73 votes, while Julius Byaruhanga of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) trailed with 27 votes.
The incumbent LCIII Chairperson, Frank Asiimwe, did not contest in the general election after losing in the NRM primary elections. Meanwhile, in Miirya Sub-county, the incumbent LCIII Chairperson and NRM flag bearer, Livingston Kyotamanya, retained his seat after polling 1,943 votes, defeating two challengers.
Kyotamanya was followed by Ronald Baguma, an independent candidate, who secured 514 votes, while James Bitamazire Tinkamanyire, also an independent, came third with 456 votes. The results were officially declared by Gastervus Kakaire, the Masindi District Returning Officer.
