National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has signed a five year Memorandum of Understanding with the Buganda Kingdom in efforts to strengthen institutional collaborations and align environmental conservation efforts in Kingdom and beyond.
Buganda Kingdom due to it’s geographical location and administrative boundaries holds a vast amount of vital ecosystems such as wetlands, forests, biodiversity and cultural resources faced with high population growth and development pressure that requires immediate adaptation and intervention.

This MoU will include collaboration on the Kingdom’s on going Ekibira Kya Kabaka Initiative aimed restoring
tree cover in Buganda region in line with the kingdom’s strategic plan by planting indigenous and other eco-friendly trees.

The event that was conducted by the Executive Director of NEMA, Dr. Barirega Akankwasah and Prime Minister of Buganda Kingdom, Mr. Charles Peter Mayiga at the Bulange Palace reinforces NEMA’s efforts in ensuring that environmental protection receives a collective response.
