President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni met His Eminence Emmanuel Wamala, commending the Archbishop for his outstanding contribution to faith, community leadership and social transformation in Uganda.
During the meeting, Museveni praised Cardinal Wamala’s decades of spiritual service, noting that his pastoral works, moral guidance and advocacy for social justice have had a lasting impact on the country’s religious life.
Museveni and Wamala also discussed legacy projects being spearheaded by the Cardinal’s family foundation. Museveni said, government will support the development of Kamagwa Hospital, a private health facility established under the foundation to expand access to medical services.
Museveni emphasised that while the hospital will remain privately managed, state support will help strengthen its service delivery and community outreach.
In addition, Museveni pledged government backing through Ministry of Tourism for the establishment of a museum dedicated to preserving Cardinal Wamala’s legacy. The facility is expected to document his life, ministry and contribution to the Catholic Church and national development, serving as a historical and educational resource for future generations.
At Cardinal Wamala’s request, Museveni accepted to serve as Patron of the legacy project, a role that will see him support mobilisation efforts and visibility for the initiatives.

Museveni concluded by wishing the Cardinal good health and God’s blessings as he celebrates 99 years of life, describing the milestone as a testament to a life devoted to faith, service and humanity.
