UPDF And Somali Forces Rehabilitate Key Supply Route In Somalia

Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), together with the Somali National Army (SNA), have completed a major joint road rehabilitation along the main supply route linking Mubarak, Darusalam, and Awdhegle.

The route had suffered damage from poor conditions due hostilities. Engineering teams cleared debris, removed overgrown vegetation, and repaired deteriorated sections, restoring safe and reliable access.

Brigadier General Jackson Kayanja, Sector One Commander, said the project is essential for sustaining recent security gains and supporting broader Stabilisation efforts.

“This road will not only improve military logistics but also ensure communities can reach markets, health facilities, and essential services,” he said.

Community leader Shuaib Osman in Awdhegle said the improvements would reduce transport costs, ease movement, and strengthen connections between towns.

Colonel Owiny Akena, Commander of Battle Group 44, stressed that secure and maintained supply routes are critical to mission success and civilian safety.

He affirmed ongoing collaboration with Somali forces and communities to support lasting peace and development.

The road project follows a series of joint operations that secured Mubarak and surrounding areas, including Darusalam.
