NEMA & KCCA Crack Down On Kampala’s Noise Pollution

National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) in a joint enforcement operation across Kampala City divisions; Nakawa, Kawempe, Makindye, Rubaga and Central have impounded sound equipment and accessories from facilities persistently emitting noise beyond permissible levels.

A total of nine (9) facilities were affected, with 153 pieces of sound equipment confiscated. The operation also issued warning notices and sealed off facilities operating under invalid licences.

Emission of noise above permissible levels is an offence punishable under the National Environment Act, Cap. 181 and enforced through the National Environment (Noise Standards and Control) Regulations, 2003.
