Uganda Wildlife Authority has completed a comprehensive health assessment of 18 big cats at the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre in Entebbe.
Led by Veterinary Services and Ex-Situ Conservation team, the exercise involved 12 lions and 6 tigers undergoing detailed veterinary checks, including diagnostic sampling, blood tests, dental examinations, morphometric measurements, claw care and treatment of identified conditions.
Routine health surveillance is more than animal care, it is conservation in action. It safeguards animal welfare, strengthens disease prevention, supports ex-situ population viability and contributes to genetic and biological resources that can strengthen conservation in Uganda’s wildlife.
