Dr Sudhir's Speke Resort Munyonyo Wins Global Luxury MICE Award, Puts Uganda On Global Business Tourism Map

Speke Resort Munyonyo has earned international recognition after being named the Best Luxury MICE Resort Globally at the prestigious 2026 Luxe Global Awards, further raising Uganda’s profile in the competitive international meetings and business tourism sector.

The accolade recognises the resort’s luxury accommodation, conference facilities and ability to host major Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) events to international standards.

The achievement is also a notable milestone for the Ruparelia Group, under which Speke Resort Munyonyo operates. The group is chaired by renowned Ugandan businessman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, whose investment in hospitality and other sectors has contributed to the growth and visibility of Uganda’s private-sector economy.

The resort celebrated the recognition, attributing its success to the continued support of its guests, partners and other stakeholders.

“We are incredibly excited to announce that we are official winners at the 2026 Luxe Global Awards as the Best Luxury MICE Resort Globally,” the resort said in a statement accompanying the announcement.

Situated along the shores of Lake Victoria in Munyonyo, Kampala, Speke Resort has grown into one of Uganda’s prominent venues for international conferences, corporate meetings, diplomatic engagements, exhibitions and other high-profile gatherings.

The latest award underscores the investment made in developing a world-class hospitality facility capable of serving both Uganda’s domestic market and international visitors.

Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, through the Ruparelia Group, has over the years invested in Uganda’s hospitality industry, with Speke Resort Munyonyo forming part of the group’s contribution to the country’s tourism and business-events infrastructure.

The resort’s latest international recognition comes as Uganda continues to position MICE tourism as an important component of the country’s tourism strategy. The sector contributes to business travel, hotel occupancy, employment, investment and foreign-exchange earnings while attracting international visitors who attend conferences and major events.

With extensive conference facilities, accommodation, leisure amenities and its distinctive lakeside location, Speke Resort Munyonyo has become a preferred setting for large-scale events involving both local and international delegates.

The award therefore represents more than an achievement for the resort. It adds to Uganda’s growing list of international hospitality successes and demonstrates the potential of locally developed facilities to compete for major business and tourism events on the global stage.

For the Ruparelia Group and Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, the recognition further highlights the impact of sustained private investment in Uganda’s hospitality industry, while for Speke Resort Munyonyo, it strengthens its standing as a leading luxury destination for international MICE events.

As Uganda seeks to attract more global conferences and business travellers, the recognition gives the country another platform from which to showcase its hospitality, investment opportunities and tourism potential to the world.
