Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) has issued a notice to all individuals illegally occupying or encroaching upon its land, demanding their immediate evacuation and the removal of any unauthorized structures, developments, and property.
This notice affects various sections of the railway network, including the Kampala-Malaba, Kampala-Port Bell, Kampala-Kasese, Tororo-Gulu, Gulu-Pakwach, Busoga Loop, Butiaba, and Masindi corridors, as well as other URC lands across the country.

URC’s decision comes as the government of Uganda prioritizes the revitalization, rehabilitation, and modernization of the railway transport sector, recognizing its crucial role in national development and regional integration. However, the corporation has expressed deep concern over the ongoing encroachment and unlawful occupation of its land, which threatens the integrity and functionality of the railway network.
The eviction process will commence on October 12, 2026, with the physical removal of encroachers and illegal structures from the affected railway lands.
