Uganda To Host 2027 IWA Water And Development Congress

Uganda has been selected to host the International Water Association (IWA) Water and Development Congress and Exhibition in 2027, positioning Kampala as a meeting point for global water and sanitation leaders, researchers, investors and development partners.

The announcement was made during the IWA’s 2026 Annual General Meeting in Glasgow, Scotland. The congress is expected to attract more than 3,000 delegates, opening opportunities for international partnerships, investment, innovation and conference tourism.

The Government of Uganda, through the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), will lead the preparations, building on the country’s experience in hosting major international water and sanitation events, including the 2025 AfWASA International Congress and Exhibition in Kampala, which attracted more than 2,500 delegates.

IWA leadership has expressed confidence in Uganda’s capacity to deliver a successful congress, while NWSC reaffirmed the country’s readiness to host the event.

Beyond advancing solutions to global water and sanitation challenges, Kampala 2027 is expected to strengthen African participation in international water-sector discussions, foster research and technical cooperation, and generate business for the hospitality, transport and exhibition sectors.

The event will also provide an opportunity to showcase Uganda’s tourism attractions, including the Source of the Nile, Lake Victoria, national parks and mountain gorilla experiences.
