Mr Jay Sakaria, Vice Chairperson of Victoria University Council and Ms Meera Ruparelia, a member of the university’s Board of Directors, represented businessman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia at the VU’s 10th Graduation Ceremony at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.
Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, chairman of the Ruparelia Group, has supported Victoria University’s development over the years. The representatives’ attendance underscored the family’s continuing connection to the institution as it marks a decade in Uganda’s higher education sector.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Muganga thanked Dr Sudhir and Ruparelia Group for their contribution to the university’s growth. He described Dr Sudhir as a pillar of its progress and acknowledged the role of his support in helping the institution advance its ambitions.
The ceremony celebrated graduating students and recognised the partnerships and governance structures supporting the university. Mr Sakaria’s council role places him among its key governance leaders, while Ms Ruparelia serves on the Board of Directors.
The event came amid attention to the university’s academic performance. A revised institutional ranking report by the National Council for Higher Education reportedly gave Victoria University a score of 87.4, placing it second nationally behind Makerere University.
As it enters its next decade, the university faces the task of building on its achievements, strengthening academic quality and preparing graduates to contribute to Uganda’s social and economic development.
