National Resistance Movement (NRM) Youth League welcomes and fully supports the proposal by H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to establish a Graduates Fund aimed at empowering unemployed university graduates and accelerating wealth creation among the educated youth.
His Excellency the President has consistently guided the country towards a mindset shift from job-seeking to job and wealth creation, acknowledging the realities faced by graduates in a competitive and evolving economy. In articulating this vision, the President stated:
“I had an idea that a university graduate who fails to get a job in two years should go to a fund and get capital to start his or own business. We are going to create this fund for graduates who fail to get jobs.”
This proposal speaks directly to the challenges faced by many graduates who, despite completing their studies, remain without formal employment for extended periods. The Graduate’s Fund is intended to provide structured start-up capital, accessed through organized channels such as Sacco’s, to enable graduates to establish sustainable enterprises and become active contributors to national development.
As the NRM Youth League, we emphasize that this initiative is not a handout, but a strategic investment in the productivity, creativity and resilience of Uganda’s educated youth. It aligns with the President’s broader economic framework, which prioritizes commercial agriculture, manufacturing, services and ICT as engines of growth and employment.
We call upon graduates across the country to organize themselves, develop viable business ideas, and prepare to take advantage of this opportunity. This fund is a clear demonstration that the NRM government listens, responds and acts to ensure that no young Ugandan is left behind.
NRM Youth League remains committed to mobilizing, sensitizing, and supporting graduates to fully understand and benefit from this initiative as further implementation guidelines are rolled out by the relevant authorities.
PS: This fund is strictly for graduates who have failed to secure employment within two years after graduation.
