President Museveni Urges Kampala NRM Leaders To Champion Pan-Africanism And Economic Unity

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders in Kampala to actively promote Pan-Africanism and regional unity as key drivers of Uganda’s and Africa’s economic prosperity.

Speaking to Kampala NRM local leaders in Nakawa after a visit to Iganga, Museveni said Uganda’s growing production capacity across several sectors demonstrates the importance of regional markets and shared economic interests.

Museveni noted that Uganda, which previously relied on smuggled sugar, now produces approximately 700,000 tonnes annually more than double the country’s domestic demand of about 300,000 tonnes.

Museveni added that Uganda produces about 5.3 billion litres of milk each year but consumes less than one billion litres locally, leaving a surplus of over four billion litres. Similar overproduction, he said, is evident in sectors such as cement, timber and other manufactured goods.

“These realities show why Africa and Pan-Africanism are vital for our prosperity,” Museveni said, emphasizing that expanded regional and continental markets are necessary to absorb surplus production and sustain economic growth.

Museveni reiterated that the NRM rejects politics based on identity and division, instead advocating for unity, peace and shared economic interests as the foundation for national and continental development.

Museveni called on party leaders to mobilize communities around a vision of economic integration and cooperation, saying Africa’s future lies in working together rather than competing along ethnic or national lines.
