Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) has signed a Transmission Service Agreement (TSA) with GridworksLLP through Amari, marking a major milestone for Uganda’s electricity sector.
The agreement was signed by Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited’s CEO Eng. Richard Matsiko on behalf of UETCL and Gridworks’ Chief Executive Officer, Christopher Flavin in the presence of British High Commission Commissioner to Uganda H.E Lisa J Chesney.
“We view this partnership as strategic and transformative and we look forward to the effective implementation and tangible improvements to the national grid.” Said Matsiko in his remarks.

This pilot project will focus on upgrading critical transmission substations at Tororo, Mbarara North, Mbarara South and Nkenda. These upgrades are essential to strengthening the national grid and supporting Uganda’s growing electricity demand. The project is also expected to generate employment opportunities during construction.

“We are particularly grateful for the leadership, foresight, and constructive engagement shown by the Government of Uganda in bringing this project to this stage.” said Mr. Christopher Flavin.

This project is firmly anchored in Uganda’s broader electricity sector reform agenda. In 2023, pursuant to the amendment of the Electricity Act, regulations were enacted to facilitate private sector participation in the refurbishment, upgrading, replacement, and development of transmission infrastructure.
