Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (WSACCO) has concluded a two-week delegates’ training and pre-Annual General Meeting workshop in preparation for its 20th Annual General Meeting scheduled for March 2026 at Jinja Gaddafi Barracks.
The workshops were conducted across the five regions represented on the Board of Directors: Northern, Eastern, Western, West Nile, and Central. The final session, which brought together delegates from the Central and parts of the Eastern region, was held at the Chieftaincy of Defence Intelligence and Security Headquarters in Mbuya, Kampala.

Speaking at the closure, the Deputy Commandant of the Military Police Brigade, Brigadier General Christopher Columbus Tumwine, commended the delegates and commanders for actively participating in the presentations.
Brig Gen Tumwine thanked the Board of Directors and management for organising what he described as a comprehensive and impactful training that will enhance service delivery to members.

Representing the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Colonel Allan Kitanda expressed appreciation to the defence leadership, from the Commander-in-Chief to the Chief of Defence Forces and commanders at various levels, for providing strategic guidance that has enabled Wazalendo to grow.
“Many SACCOs start and collapse, but Wazalendo has sustained its mandate and registered growth because of the command-led approach,” he said.
Col Kitanda noted that the recent election of delegates necessitated the training and orientation to equip them with a clear understanding of SACCO operations before the AGM convenes. He added that the training enabled delegates to examine critical areas of the SACCO model.

Col Nicholas Humble Nyesiga, who spoke as host on behalf of the Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security, described Wazalendo as one of Uganda’s strategic institutions. He encouraged the newly elected delegates to recognise the significance of their responsibilities.
“When you come to serve in Wazalendo, you are serving at the heart of Uganda’s national security. Wazalendo is a critical pillar that underpins both the individual and job welfare of our troops, from the General to the Private,” he said.
Staff Sergeant Otwa Noble, a delegate representing VVIP Sera Kasenyi, thanked the management of WSACCO for organising what he termed transformational training. He said it would help delegates and the wider membership understand the importance of SACCOs in improving members’ livelihoods and strengthening collective growth.

During the training, delegates were taken through the SACCO business model, governance structures and leadership roles, social and economic challenges, and the philosophy and cooperative principles of SACCOs, among others.
Delegates were also briefed on the UPDF’s role in improving the welfare of its troops and key performance highlights for the period ending 31 December 2025. They reviewed proposals to be presented at the 20th Annual General Meeting, including the election of female delegates at Division level and veterans’ representatives at regional constituencies.
Senior and junior officers were present.
