Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia Receives Shs2.25bn Dividend As Bank Of Baroda Profits Surge

Ugandan businessman and Ruparelia Group Chairman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia has received Shs2.25 billion in dividends from his investment in Bank of Baroda (Uganda) Limited, following the lender’s strong earnings performance during the 2025 financial year.

Ruparelia on Wednesday shared a photograph of a formal cheque presentation showing him receiving Shs2,250,981,000. The ceremonial cheque, dated August 19, 2026, was presented alongside a Bank of Baroda Uganda official.

The payment relates to dividends declared on Ruparelia’s shareholding in the listed financial institution for the year ended December 31, 2025.

Bank of Baroda Uganda declared a dividend of Shs6 per share for the period, representing an increase from the Shs4 per share distributed to shareholders for the preceding financial year.

With approximately 375.16 million shares in the bank, Ruparelia is estimated to own about 2.5 per cent of the institution, making him one of its significant individual investors.

The increased shareholder payout follows a year of robust financial results for Bank of Baroda Uganda. The lender’s profit after tax reportedly climbed to about Shs156.8 billion in 2025, strengthening its capacity to reward shareholders.

The proposed dividend was subsequently endorsed by shareholders during the bank’s Annual General Meeting, after which payment proceeded subject to the required regulatory approvals and processes.

For investors, the payout illustrates how equity ownership in profitable listed companies can provide a source of regular income while potentially offering opportunities for long-term capital appreciation.

Ruparelia’s investment in Bank of Baroda Uganda forms part of a broader portfolio built across key sectors of the Ugandan economy. Through the Ruparelia Group, he has interests in areas including real estate, hospitality, education and financial services.

The businessman has maintained a presence in Uganda’s financial services sector for several decades, with his stake in Bank of Baroda representing one component of his wider investment portfolio.

The cheque presentation comes at a time when dividend-paying listed companies remain an important consideration for investors looking to balance income generation with long-term wealth creation.

No separate statement on the payment was issued by either Bank of Baroda Uganda or the Ruparelia Group beyond the information accompanying the ceremonial cheque presentation.

The Shs2.25 billion dividend demonstrates the potential income generated by substantial equity positions when companies deliver strong earnings and increase distributions to their shareholders.
