GoldStar Insurance Company Limited has commemorated its 30th anniversary by planting 150 fruit and indigenous trees at Kira Primary School in Wakiso District, underscoring its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable community development.
The exercise, conducted on Thursday, July 17, 2026, was implemented in partnership with My Tree Initiative Uganda and the Rotary Clubs of Namugongo, Bukerere, Bweyogerere Central, Kyambogo and Kira as part of the “Planting and Protecting Trees in Schools Across Kira Municipality” project.
The activity is one of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives marking its milestone anniversary under the theme “30 Years. One Promise.” For the past three decades, GoldStar Insurance has built its reputation on protecting the livelihoods of Ugandans by safeguarding their families, homes and businesses. Through the tree-planting campaign, the insurer says it is extending that commitment to protecting the environment for future generations.
Employees of GoldStar Insurance joined pupils in planting a variety of fruit trees, including avocado, mango, guava and jackfruit, alongside indigenous species such as Mugavu, Musambya, Ensaali and Entasesa.
Beyond planting the trees, the initiative also focused on environmental education. More than 391 pupils underwent practical training led by My Tree Initiative Uganda on tree planting, care and maintenance. To ensure the trees are nurtured, the school’s Environmental Club has been entrusted with managing designated sections of the planting site.
Organisers said the fruit trees are expected to start contributing to the school’s feeding programme within the next 24 to 36 months, while the indigenous trees will provide shade, reduce soil erosion and help minimise flooding around the school premises during heavy rains. Once mature, the trees are projected to absorb an estimated three metric tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.
Speaking during the exercise, GoldStar Insurance Chief Operations Officer Mr. Enock Mudadi, who represented the company’s management, said the initiative reflects the company’s enduring promise to invest in Uganda’s future.
“For thirty years, GoldStar has stood with Ugandans through storms, fires, floods and uncertainty. Insurance is, at its heart, a promise about the future — and there is no more honest way to invest in the future than to plant a tree with a child and commit to seeing it grow. These 150 trees are our promise to this community, planted in the ground.”
He said the values that have enabled GoldStar to remain a trusted insurer for three decades are the same values the company hopes to instil in the younger generation through environmental stewardship.
“The same discipline that has made GoldStar a strong and stable insurer for three decades — keeping our word, paying claims promptly and planning for the long term — is the discipline these young people showed us today. We did not come to Kira Primary School only to plant trees; we came to plant a culture of stewardship. As we mark thirty years, our commitment is unchanged: we will keep protecting Ugandans, their families and their businesses for the next thirty years and beyond.”
The initiative will now advance into its next phase, during which My Tree Initiative Uganda will continue supporting the project through regular maintenance, monitoring tree survival rates, GPS mapping of the planting sites and periodic follow-up visits involving both the school and the surrounding community.
To recognise the pupils’ participation in the exercise, GoldStar Insurance donated branded school bags, T-shirts and other learning materials, acknowledging their role in safeguarding the newly planted trees.
