Today, Embassy of Japan in Uganda reaffirmed its strong commitment to fostering safety and security in Uganda by donating seven (7) state of the art fire trucks through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
The official handover ceremony took place at the Ministry of Health Headquarters in Wandegeya, Kampala, where the Ambassador of Japan to Uganda, H.E. Takuya Sasayama, presented the new fleet to Inspector General of Uganda Police Force, ABAS BYAKAGABA.
This gesture underscores Japan’s dedication to supporting Uganda’s efforts in enhancing emergency response capabilities.
During the event, the IGP highlighted that these new fire trucks will greatly boost the operational capacity of the Police’s Fire Prevention and Rescue Services, especially in districts such as Tororo, Mpigi, Kiryandongo, Lira, Bundibugyo, Iganga, and Luwero. He emphasized that this upgrade will lead to faster emergency responses, ultimately saving more lives and protecting property across these regions.
“This continued support is a clear demonstration that Japan remains a committed partner in Uganda’s pursuit of safety and human security,” the IGP stated, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Japan and the Embassy for their unwavering assistance.
Over the years, Uganda Police Force has benefited from multiple contributions under the GGP initiative, including:
- In 2020: four (4) fire trucks, one (1) rescue truck, and one (1) command vehicle
- In March 2025: five (5) fire trucks and one (1) ambulance
- Ongoing capacity-building support to strengthen their operational skills
This partnership exemplifies the enduring friendship and shared commitment between Japan and Uganda in building a safer, more secure future for all.
