Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has clarified that two individuals whose photographs and names are circulating in social and mainstream media in connection with criminal proceedings are not employees, agents or authorised representatives of the Authority.
The clarification follows reports identifying the two individuals as KCCA enforcement officers in connection with cases involving rape and cyber harassment.
KCCA categorically rejects the association of the individuals with the Authority and cautions the public against relying on unauthorised persons who use the KCCA name or identity to conduct activities within the city.
“KCCA wishes to categorically state that the individuals appearing in the circulating posts are not employed by, affiliated with or authorised to represent the Authority in any capacity,” KCCA spokesperson Daniel NuweAbine said.
KCCA Enforcement Officers and City Ambiance Scouts are official personnel of the Authority and are required to wear prescribed uniforms and carry valid KCCA identification cards while undertaking their duties.
The official uniforms carry identification numbers to enable members of the public to identify and verify personnel operating on behalf of the Authority.
“KCCA staff are always in uniform and carry identification cards. Members of the public should therefore be cautious of anyone claiming to be a KCCA official without the required identification,” NuweAbine said.
The Authority further cautioned that any unauthorised use of the KCCA name, logo, uniform or other elements of its corporate identity is misleading and should not be construed as official KCCA activity.
KCCA urged members of the public to stop dealing with masquerades and to report any person suspected of impersonating KCCA personnel.
Reports of suspected impersonation can be made to the police or directly to KCCA through the toll-free line 0800 199 000 or WhatsApp 0701 100 700.
The Authority reiterated its commitment to maintaining professional standards among its personnel and urged members of the public to verify the identity of individuals claiming to represent KCCA before engaging with them or complying with any instructions they may issue.
