President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni thanks God for blessing Maama and me with our wonderful children, Muhoozi (Muogi), Natasha (Kukuru), Patience (Pusi) and Kyaremeera (Kyinini) for protecting them and prospering them.
Secondly, I thank Maama for caring for them, especially during the years 1981–86, when she was the only parent near them.
Thirdly, I salute our children for navigating the school system and branching out successfully into different fields of life family, career and beyond.
Fourthly, I thank Ugandans and some Africans for standing with and supporting our family and political movement in the various endeavors we have undertaken together.
On this occasion, the 24th of April 2026, I congratulate Gen. Muhoozi (Muogi) on his 52nd birthday. These children particularly Muhoozi were born in the resistance, grew up in the resistance, and have, in various ways, made significant contributions to it. Gen. Muhoozi has contributed greatly to fighting corruption in the Army and increasing the lethality of the UPDF.
I always call Muhoozi “Muogi.” This is because our neighbor in Upanga, Dar-es-Salaam, was Mzee Tito Okello (Gen). Being a traditional Acholi, he had trouble pronouncing the “z” in Muhoozi’s name. Hence, “Muogi” came about, and Maama Janet also became “Maama Muogi.”
Tito’s wife was safely called Maama Jennifer, since we had no trouble pronouncing Jennifer—the sister of Okello Oryem. Unfortunately, Jennifer passed away some years ago.
