Switf News CEO Kamuntu Earns Master’s Degree, Urges Youth To Embrace Lifelong Learning

Swift News CEO Frank Kamuntu, popularly known as Mr Swift, who also serves as the IT Manager at Pan African Pyramid (PAP), has graduated with a Master’s degree in Mass Communication from Victoria University. The achievement marks another milestone in his academic journey and underscores his commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth in journalism and communication.

Kamuntu was among the graduates at the university’s 10th graduation ceremony, which began on Monday and concludes today at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.

His achievement comes two years after he obtained his bachelor’s degree in 2024, when he vowed not to stop at undergraduate education but to pursue further studies in the same field.

Reflecting on his journey, Kamuntu said balancing academic work with professional responsibilities had not been easy, but the encouragement and support he received from well-wishers, lecturers and the university management helped him persevere.

He singled out Victoria University Vice Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Muganga for his mentorship and personal support, describing him as a father figure who played a significant role in his academic journey.

“Truth be told, my hero in this journey has been Dr. Lawrence Muganga. To me, he is a father and my superhero. Sometimes I sit and think about how much he has embraced and loved me, and I run out of words because I am not unique in any way,” Kamuntu said.

He credited the vice chancellor’s approach to leadership and student support for helping him remain focused despite the competing demands of journalism and postgraduate studies.

Kamuntu also praised Victoria University’s digital learning model, saying the university’s decision to conduct teaching, coursework and examinations online made it possible for him to pursue his master’s degree without significantly disrupting his professional responsibilities.

He said the flexibility enabled him to attend lectures, complete assignments and sit examinations from different locations, demonstrating how technology can expand access to higher education for working professionals.

He particularly thanked his research supervisor, Dr. Adnan Adikata, for his consistent guidance, encouragement and advice throughout the dissertation process, which is widely regarded as one of the most demanding stages of postgraduate study.

According to Kamuntu, his supervisor’s support helped him navigate the research process and remain committed to producing a strong academic dissertation.

‘Never Stop Learning’

Beyond celebrating his achievement, Kamuntu used the occasion to encourage young people, particularly Generation Z, to embrace further education and consider institutions that combine digital innovation with practical, career-oriented learning.

“Graduation is not the end of learning; it is the beginning of a greater journey. Keep pursuing further studies because every new qualification expands your knowledge, sharpens your skills and opens doors to opportunities you never imagined. Never stop learning, because your future will be shaped by what you continue to learn today,” he said.

He urged young people to look beyond traditional approaches to education and consider universities that equip them with practical skills relevant to the demands of the modern workplace.

“Victoria University is demonstrating that education can move with the times. I encourage young people, especially Gen Z, to consider Victoria University because its innovations are responding to the needs of this generation. The combination of digital learning, flexibility and hands-on skills gives young people an opportunity to prepare for the real world, rather than simply acquire theoretical knowledge,” Kamuntu said.

He added that institutions of higher learning must embrace technology and practical training to prepare graduates for an increasingly digital economy, where adaptability, creativity and relevant skills are becoming essential.

Eyes On Another Academic Journey

Kamuntu said obtaining his master’s degree would not mark the end of his academic ambitions, revealing plans to embark on another course of study, potentially in the technology field.

He said the next step would allow him to broaden his professional knowledge and explore the intersection between journalism, mass communication and technology, sectors increasingly shaped by digital transformation.

His ambitions reflect a broader commitment to lifelong learning and the need for media professionals to continuously acquire new skills as technology reshapes news production, distribution and audience engagement.

For Kamuntu, the latest qualification is therefore both a personal achievement and a foundation for future professional growth.

As he celebrates the milestone, he has urged fellow journalists and young professionals not to allow work commitments or other responsibilities to extinguish their academic ambitions, emphasising that with determination, support and flexible learning opportunities, it is possible to pursue education while building a career.
