UPDF Calls On Somali Leaders To Foster Peace During Ramadan

Commander of Battle Group 45 of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), Colonel Justus Musenene, has called on local leaders in Barawe-Embreso to be active participants in promoting peace during the holy month of Ramadan.

“If you receive any information on the whereabouts of Al-Shabaab, report it immediately. We are here to protect the people of Somalia and their property,” said Col Musenene.

Col Musenene made the call during an engagement with community leaders of Barawe. During the engagement, the troops distributed food items to families to support them during Ramadan.

Col Musenene called on local leaders to motivate residents to resume daily economic activities, emphasising that the prevailing peace facilitated by AUSSOM provides opportunities for socio-economic growth.

Barawe District Commissioner Umaru Abdulai Muhammad of the Barawe sub-sector praised Colonel Musenene and the UPDF for maintaining peace and stability and urged local leaders to provide timely security information.

The meeting was attended by senior and junior administrative officers; and local community leaders.
