UPDF Commanders, Legal Advisors Undergo Training To Strengthen Operational Legal Coordination

Commanding Officers and Legal Advisors of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) are undergoing a two-week training course at the Legal Training Centre in Jinja aimed at strengthening coordination between commanders and their legal advisors and enhancing the application of law in military operations.

While opening the course, the Jinja Cantonment Commander, Brigadier General Emmanuel Kanyesigye, urged commanders to consistently guide their soldiers on proper conduct in the execution of their duties.

“Our officers must always guide the troops under their command on how to conduct themselves in daily duties, whether during operations at home or on international missions,” Brig Gen Kanyesigye said.

The Commandant of the Centre, Major Sam Wako, said the participants were carefully selected from different UPDF units to complement the work of legal advisors and improve coordination with commanders.

“This training is intended to harmonise the working relationship between commanders and legal advisors in contemporary operations where the application of law has become increasingly critical across operational theatres,” Maj Wako said.

The training will be facilitated by both UPDF and external instructors.
