Following Uganda Revenue Authority (URA)’s call to affected traders, John Rujoki Musinguzi today met the importers at URA Headquarters in Nakawa to listen to their stories firsthand and have their issues resolved.
Several traders narrated how companies collected their money, cleared goods from the port, and then, on arrival in Uganda, withheld the consignments for months, in some cases over six months, while falsely blaming URA for the delays. For many small business owners, the ordeal has meant stalled businesses, mounting debts, and sleepless nights.
Musinguzi sympathized with the victims and thanked them for speaking out, assuring them that action would be taken against those exploiting innocent traders.

“You have suffered enough at the hands of people who used our name to deceive you. The individuals and companies exploiting hardworking Ugandan traders by holding their goods and falsely blaming the Authority for delays will be held to account,” he said.

He also urged other affected traders to come forward to the 16th Floor of URA Headquarters in Nakawa with supporting documents so their cases can also be handled quickly.
These include:
- A National ID,
- Payment receipts
- Packing lists
- Bills of Lading
- Or any communication with the logistics provider.
