Speke Resort Munyonyo hosted a gathering of prominent African personalities on Saturday, August 29, 2026, as hundreds of dignitaries, Pan-Africanists, business executives and other guests attended the ninth Pan-African Pyramid (PAP) Global Awards and 12th Anniversary Dinner.
The annual celebration attracted influential figures from Uganda, other African countries and the diaspora, providing a platform to honour individuals and institutions whose work has contributed to humanitarianism, community development, leadership, entrepreneurship, freedom struggles and the promotion of Pan-African ideals.
Beyond the awards, the occasion featured a blend of entertainment and intellectual engagement, with guests treated to musical performances, keynote addresses and discussions examining Africa’s development, sovereignty and future. Speakers also explored issues surrounding refugees on the continent, what was described as “new colonialism,” and the significance of decoloniality in Africa’s transformation.
Businessman and philanthropist Dr Sudhir Ruparelia was among the high-profile attendees, participating in the event as Guest of Honour.
The ceremony also attracted a number of influential Pan-African voices from across the continent and beyond, including Zimbabwean Bishop Joshua Maponga, South African anti-apartheid activist Dr Khanyisile Litchfield Tshabalala, Ghanaian entrepreneur Ambassador Clinton Arko Agyemang, Jamaican Pan-Africanist Blossom Thomas and prominent US activist Ayo Kimathi.
Bishop Joshua Maponga delivered the keynote address, setting the stage for an awards presentation that recognised personalities whose contributions continue to shape African society and the wider Pan-African movement.
Among the evening’s honourees were Rajiv Ruparelia and Hon. Helen Nakimuli Walusimbi, who received Humanitarian Awards in recognition of their contributions to communities and humanitarian causes.
Dr Hon. Khanyisile Litchfield Tshabalala was recognised as a Freedom Fighter for her contribution to the struggle against apartheid in South Africa.
Other notable recipients included Dr Frank Mugyenyi, who was recognised for leadership in African mineral sovereignty and governance, and Ambassador Clinton Arko Agyemang, who received recognition for his contribution to youth social and development entrepreneurship.
Jamaican Pan-Africanist Blossom Thomas was honoured for her role in promoting African Renaissance leadership within the diaspora, while Ugandan industrialist Victoria Sugar received the African Development Entrepreneur Award.
Telecommunications company MTN Uganda was presented with the Lifetime Achiever Award, while Prince Wasajja Kiwanuka received the African Renaissance Award.
The formal proceedings later gave way to an evening of celebration, with guests enjoying dinner, a cake-cutting ceremony and live musical performances. The occasion concluded in a convivial atmosphere, with attendees sampling a wide selection of food and beverages prepared by Speke Resort Munyonyo.
The ninth PAP Global Awards and 12th Anniversary Dinner thus combined recognition, reflection and celebration, bringing together African voices around a shared commitment to leadership, humanitarianism, development and the advancement of Pan-African ideals.
