Business magnates Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia and Godfrey Kirumira have publicly thrown their weight behind Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s presidential ambitions, potentially giving the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) added visibility as the organisation expands its political mobilisation efforts.
The two businessmen visited the PLU headquarters on Monday, September 7, 2026, where they formally expressed their support by signing endorsement books backing Gen. Muhoozi’s presidential aspirations.
Their presence at the PLU offices brought prominent figures from Uganda’s business community into the endorsement drive, which the organisation has been conducting as part of efforts to demonstrate broad support for Gen. Muhoozi.
PLU officials and mobilisers confirmed the participation of the two businessmen in the signature campaign. The organisation has said it intends to collect millions of endorsements as it builds support for Gen. Muhoozi’s political ambitions.
The appearance of Ruparelia and Kirumira was subsequently welcomed by PLU supporters, who viewed it as a significant show of confidence from influential members of Uganda’s private sector.
Sudhir’s Previous Support for Muhoozi
Ruparelia’s latest endorsement follows an earlier public gesture of support for Gen. Muhoozi.
In April 2026, the businessman donated UGX100 million towards the General’s “Run for Hope” birthday charity event at Kololo Independence Grounds.
That contribution attracted attention because of Ruparelia’s prominence in Uganda’s business community and his association with an initiative connected to Gen. Muhoozi.
His decision to sign the PLU endorsement book now takes his support a step further by placing him directly within the organisation’s ongoing political mobilisation campaign.
For PLU supporters, the involvement of prominent entrepreneurs could help broaden the campaign’s appeal and increase its visibility within business circles. It may also encourage other influential members of the private sector to publicly express their views on Gen. Muhoozi’s political future.
Ruparelia and Kirumira also attended the PLU offices as representatives of the Kwagalana Group, a network that brings together prominent businesspeople in Kampala with interests in different areas of the economy.
Their participation has therefore attracted particular attention because of the influence and visibility associated with the business community they represent.
The endorsement comes as PLU continues to strengthen its mobilisation structures and build support for Gen. Muhoozi at both grassroots and elite levels.
